Achieving Greater Distance

Someone knowledgeable about golf once said, “There isn’t a golfer in the world over forty who wouldn’t like to be able to hit the ball farther.”  Yes, distance is a desirable element in the game for making it easier to score.  If you are looking for extra distance in your game, then come to the one-day school at  Highlands GC on Saturday, July 31,   where it will be covered.   This will not be theory, but honest practice recommendations that produce results.  As a former South Florida long-drive champion, I can attest to it.   Hope to see you there.   Gary Wiren   Gary Wiren, PhD www.garywiren.com tel:  561-626-4176

Voted Best at Warren Buffet’s Omaha Golf Classic

A message and golf tip from Dr. Gary Wiren

I am looking forward to visiting Highlands GC on Saturday, July 31, as it is always enjoyable for me to meet new people.  As my friend Harvey Penick used to say, “If you are a golfer, you’re my friend.”

One of the simplest and most useful ideas we will pass along at the school is called “The Secret of the Tee.”  For ten years I gave a short clinic to all the participants at the Warren Buffet Omaha Classic at Omaha Country Club.  The “Secret of the Tee” was voted the best in that ten-year period.  This drill is a short-game wonder.  For you we will expand it to include its equivalent for the full swing.

The one-day school will present you with the principles for better scoring and the drills to get them done.  In other words:  a plan.  After the school you should work with your teaching staff to see that you are on track.

For more enjoyable golf experiences,

Gary Wiren

P.S.  And don’t forget…we will have fun!

Golf Improvement Member Only Party-

Save the date August 13th, 2010. 7:30pm to 9:30pm.Brian Vander Ark will perform a poolside backyard concert for Golf Improvement Members and their spouse/girlfriend/significant other.

This is an exclusive event for you as a golf improvement member.
Here is an excerted note from Brian Vander Ark’s Lawn Chairs and Living Rooms website-
Hello everyone!
My name is Brian Vander Ark, and I am the lead singer for the band The Verve Pipe. We’ve had quite a bit of success over the last 18 years, including a couple of top 10 hits: The Freshmen and Photograph.
I’ve realized that the greatest satisfaction that I’ve had in my career in the last few years has been the times I’ve spent in the homes and backyards, performing for my fans. That’s why I’ve decided once again to do the Lawn Chairs and Living Rooms Tour this spring and summer and fall.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with it – I spent each summer since 2007 traveling the country, playing at the homes of my ever-supportive fans. The first year, I was hoping for 25 shows, I booked 74 of them! 2008 – over a hundred! Needless to say, it’s been a tremendous success!

Here’s the deal: I play one hour’s worth of songs including some of your requests (songs from The Verve Pipe and my solo career) and then I hang out for an hour for photos, autographs, guitar lessons, you name it! (Please don’t ask me to paint anything!)

What is Sports Massage?

It was designed for athletes, but is useful for anyone with chronic pain, injury or range-of-motion issues.  Sports massage was originally developed to help athletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance, recover after a big event, or function well during training.  Sports massage emphasizes prevention and healing of injuries to the muscles and tendons and generally concentrates on a specific problem area.

Sports massage will stimulate circulation of blood and lymph fluids, break down adhesions through use of trigger point work and increase the range of motion for joints.

There are four types of sports massage:  pre-event, post-event, restorative and rehabilative.

Who would benefit from a Sports Massage? It’s a good choice if you have a specific problem …. A sore neck and shoulders, low back tightness, a pulled Achilles tendon that’s healing, a frozen shoulder or a pulled hamstring, just to name a few.

Also, sometimes men who are new to massage are more comfortable getting a sports massage because it sounds more masculine.  That’s fine, even if they don’t have an injury.

No matter what type of massage you choose, it’s an easy gift for Fathers’ Day.

A special message from Dr. Gary Wiren, PGA Hall of Fame Golf School

The first line of the first golf book I wrote was, “Golf is a game and is meant to be enjoyed.”  I have never doubted the truth of that statement.   There are a number of reasons why people play the game:  being with friends, the challenge of the skill, getting out into God’s good earth, competing against others, the exercise, etc.  Enjoyment comes wrapped in different packages for different people, but enjoyment is still the ultimate gift that people seek from the experience.  There is a universal truth, however, that is hard to deny:  People enjoy golf more when they play better. (Wouldn’t you agree?)

On Saturday, July 31, I will be coming to Highlands to join Scott and his staff in offering you a one-day coaching session that will present you with a plan for improving your golf while finding more enjoyment.  In addition to solid principles that apply to anyone trying to better their handicap, those who attend will receive information on golf psychology, fitness for distance, a list of my best drills that will guarantee improvement in the five skill areas of the game, an award-winning DVD, and a signed copy of my book that won “Best Golf Book of the Year, 2005.”  We seek to motivate you—and do believe we will.  But an absolute promise is that you will have fun.

One more universal truth that you cannot deny:  the best golfers in the world have teachers. If that is true—and it is—then shouldn’t it follow that those who are less skilled than a Tour player could profit even more from instruction?   Hope to see you when I visit Highlands.

For more enjoyable golf experiences.
